Cyclefit volunteer Stacey Dickson believes that every child should have the opportunity to enjoy a YMCA membership. That’s why she’s participating in YMCA Cycle-for-Kids, an April 11 fundraising event for the YMCA Strong Kids campaign. YMCA Strong Kids is an annual, national campaign that raises funds to help children, teens and young adults participate in YMCA programming regardless of their financial circumstances. Participants are asked to raise pledges for one hour of indoor group cycling at YMCA Cycle-for-Kids events in Hamilton, Burlington, Flamborough and Brantford. The combined goal is to raise $104,000 for YMCA Strong Kids.
Stacey’s personal goal is to bring in $750 through pledges and a sponsorship from her hairstyling business, Styles by Stacey. It’s enough to cover the cost of three children’s YMCA memberships for one year.
“My own children have Y memberships so I see the value,” said Stacey, a Les Chater Family YMCA member along with her nine-year-old son and 13-year-old stepson. “There are lots of opportunities at the YMCA for children to be active and healthy, and meet other kids from the community.”
Stacey joined the YMCA three years ago to manage her weight after losing 150 pounds. As a way to stay motivated, she started leading Cyclefit classes. “Knowing that I volunteered to lead classes got me to the Y because people depended on me and looked to me for motivation.”
Stacey and the entire YMCA team hope you’ll consider supporting YMCA Cycle-for-Kids. This event, sponsored by RBC, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information on how to participate or donate, please visit our YMCA Cycle-for-Kids page under Events or contact your nearest YMCA.
Note: Thanks to all our supporters and participants including Stacey, YMCA Cycle-for-Kids raised $104,430. Please stay tuned for another exciting event in 2016.
