The YMCA is a reflection and celebration of the diverse communities which we all call home.

We endeavour to create safe spaces, programs and services where all people may belong as their true authentic selves.

We are committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within our YMCA and within our communities. Using our core values as a guide, we commit to:

  • Demonstrating Caring by using our voice to start conversations, create change, and help our communities heal.
  • Being Honest about systemic racism, unconscious bias, and its role in keeping us apart.
  • To show each other Respect, by believing in the potential and value of every person, regardless of race, gender identity, expression, sexual orientation or beliefs.
  • Understanding and working together to take Responsibility for creating and supporting reform that addresses inequality, injustice and recognizing and taking action to support acts of truth and reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples.

There are many opportunities to improve throughout our organization and we will do more.

Here is what we are doing now

Committed to Reconciliation in Action

For more than a decade, we've delivered the YMCA Beyond the Bell™ to participating schools on the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve. YMCA Beyond the Bell™ is a 100% donor-funded after-school and summer program designed to support academic achievement, food security and recreation needs for children in priority neighbourhoods in Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford & Six Nations.

Ensuring Access for Families of All Means

Ensuring everyone has access to YMCA programs and services is a key way we promote health equity in our communities. As a charitable organization, financial assistance is central to our mission. Each year, we provide more than $1 million to ensure YMCA experiences for all.

Creating Spaces for Dialogue & Change

Creating communities of belonging starts from within. At our YMCA, team members from across our organization are leading important discussions about how we can meaningfully address systemic racism in our communities through our Black Lives Matter Committee.
