YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford is proud to announce the return of The Long Walk Home, a powerful community fundraising event supporting men experiencing housing instability, homelessness, concurrent disorders, and social isolation.

Taking place on October 1 and 2, our dedicated walkers will journey 75 kilometre over two days, from Brantford to Hamilton, with a goal of raising $40,000 for the YMCA Men's Residence.

The Long Walk Home is meant to raise support for the journey that many people walk to find a safe place to call home.

Each year, the YMCA Men's Residence provides safe, affordable housing and supportive services to more than 240 residents in Hamilton. Many residents are rebuilding their lives after experiencing significant challenges, including homelessness, mental health concerns, social isolation, and financial hardship. Through housing support, health and wellness programming, employment connections, and opportunities for community belonging, the YMCA helps residents take meaningful steps toward greater stability and independence.

"Every step in The Long Walk Home represents the journey many of our residents take as they work toward a brighter future," said Genevieve Hladysh, third-time walker, and Vice President, Men's Residence and Health, Fitness & Aquatics, YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford.

"This event shines a light on the reality of housing instability in our community while raising critical funds that help us provide safe housing, compassionate support, and opportunities for men to thrive."

Participants in the walk will not only challenge themselves physically, but also help raise awareness about the barriers many vulnerable men face in securing stable housing and meaningful community connections.

"The Long Walk Home reminds us that no one should have to walk life's challenges alone," said Joel Côté, SVP, Philanthropy, YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford. "By supporting this event, our community is helping ensure that men facing difficult circumstances have access to the housing, resources, and support systems they need to move forward."
