YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford Awards 2026 Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarships to Youth‑Led Community Projects

During Education Week 2026, YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford has proudly announced the 2026 recipients of the Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship, an initiative that supports youth‑led projects advancing peace, leadership, and cross‑cultural understanding across our region. Rooted in the YMCA’s long‑standing commitment to empowering young people, the Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship provides funding to school‑based projects that encourage empathy, civic engagement, and meaningful connection within increasingly diverse communities.


“The Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship reflects our deep belief in the ability of young people to strengthen the fabric of our communities through leadership, empathy, and meaningful cross-cultural connection,” said Nicki Glowacki, Chief Operating Officer Hamilton| Burlington | Brantford YMCA.


In 2026, the  Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship has been granted to support four community-based school projects in Hamilton and Brantford that aim to encourage peace, promote cross-cultural understanding, and strengthening community connections: 

  • St. John’s College, Brantford - Community Outreach project to assist Riverview Terrace Retirement Facility and expand its impact to include organizations like the St. Vincent De Paul, and Why Not Youth Centre.
     
  • North Park Collegiate & Vocational School, Brantford - “North Park Welcomes the World- Amazing Race Edition” event, which will feature seven different showcases to learn about different cultures, and take part in cultural activities to promote pride and understanding.
     
  • Annunciation of our Lord, Catholic Elementary School,  Hamilton - Funding a cultural exchange visit and activities with another Language Friendly school from Curacao to learn about the history and importance of embracing languages and cultures different from our own.
     
  • Cathedral High School, Hamilton - ELL Everyday Essentials for Learning Initiative- Providing school supplies and other essentials to ESL and ELD students to support their learning, strengthen connections and create a sense of community.
     


“Each recipient group shows what can happen when youth are supported in building bridges of understanding and fostering a more peaceful, inclusive future. Their commitment reinforces our mission to empower young leaders and help create communities where everyone can thrive,” said Nicki Glowacki.


The Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship is generously supported by the Farah Family Foundation and reflects the YMCA’s broader commitment to nurturing youth leadership, global awareness, and active citizenship throughout Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford.
