Y Alert: Camp Chippewa Closed July 10 Due to Power Outage at Christie Lake
July 9, 2026
Due to a sustained power outage affecting Christie Lake Conservation Area, YMCA Camp Chippewa at Christie Lake Conservation area and associated extended care service locations for Camp Chippewa General and Specialty campers will be closed on Friday, July 10.
Extended care programs for YMCA Camp Chippewa Campers at Queen Victoria, Laurier Brantford YMCA, Chedoke, Stoney Creek Child Care, St. Marks (Burlington) will be closed. All other YMCA Summer Day Camp Community Programs will be open as scheduled.
After monitoring updates from the Hamilton Conservation Authority and considering the uncertainty around when power will be restored, we have made the difficult decision to cancel programming for the day. While we recognize this closure is a significant inconvenience for families, the health and safety of campers must come first. At this time, we cannot be confident that essential facilities, including washroom services, will be fully operational for children's use.
We understand that many families rely on camp programming and apologize for the disruption this may cause.
Families will be refunded for the missed camp day in accordance with our standard procedures.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate circumstances beyond our control and look forward to welcoming campers back to Christie Lake as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.
