Family campers
Bring the whole family together as you experience an unforgettable week of fun and adventure. Since 1969, YMCA Wanakita's Family Camp has set the standard for family camps throughout the province. This is more than a great family vacation - it is the chance to turn off devices and tune in to family and friends, develop and strengthen those relationships, and build meaningful memories.

We offer nine weeks of Family Camp in the summer. Families arrive on Sunday at midday and depart midday the following Saturday.

We also offer year-round family camp getaways! (New Years, Family Day Weekend, March Break, Mother-Daughter Weekend and Father-Son Weekend) Click here for more information.

Program

Our Summer Family Camp is designed with all family members in mind. Each day is filled with activities and opportunities for family members to play independently and together. Our staff are well trained in age-appropriate programming, ensuring that campers of all ages get the most out of their experience. All programs are optional, giving families the opportunity to choose whether they would like to participate in program or relax on the beach.

Facilities

Family Camp operates on its own site, Wanakita East, separately from our Overnight Camp and Day Camp on Wanakita West. The site boasts an outstanding sandy waterfront with docks for a variety of waterfront activities, fields, courts, and wooded areas for all land based programs, buildings for indoor activities, and access to fire pits and various other community outdoor spaces.

Each family occupies its own rustic wood cabin outfitted with single beds and bunk beds, shelving units and electricity. Cabins are located steps away from centralized bathrooms and showers.

Family campers share meals together in our community dining hall, where we serve healthy and delicious food and can accommodate most dietary needs.

Family Camp activities include many of Wanakita's traditional camp activities, including:

Guests
At YMCA Wanakita we are limited by our program and our site, making it difficult to accommodate additional people. If you are hoping to have family members or friends join you for a portion of your time at camp, it is necessary that you communicate this to the camp office prior to your arrival. To ensure the safety of all participants, YMCA Wanakita must know who is on site at all times. Also note that when visitors or guests arrive at YMCA Wanakita they must check in at the main longhouse office at the main entrance of camp, as well as at the Family Camp Office. Please note: Guest fees are charged at full price, regardless of the time spent at camp, unless your guest is staying for 48 hours or less. Contact the Family Camp Director for day rates.
Multiple Weeks
In an effort to ensure the opportunity for as many families as possible to enjoy YMCA Wanakita's Summer Family Camp program, registration in only one week of Family Camp per family will be allowed prior to January 1st of each year. After January 1st, registration in a second week of Family Camp will be welcomed, pending availability. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate families on Wanakita property during changeover periods between consecutive weeks of Family Camp.
