Volunteering at Camp

Volunteering your time is a great opportunity to gain professional experience in the field of outdoor education or camping. At YMCA Wanakita, volunteers are a valuable part of our team.

Opportunities are dependent on the needs of the programs so volunteers are asked to assist in all areas of YMCA Wanakita, including support tasks such as cleaning, light maintenance and program preparation.

Summer volunteers may assist with Overnight Camp, Day Camp, Family Camp, special projects or Food Services. Special projects volunteers help in keeping our site well maintained while volunteers in Resource will assist with delivering programs such as swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, arts and crafts and others, dependent on qualifications.

Outdoor Centre volunteers may assist in delivering recreational and educational programs throughout the season including high ropes, initiatives, archery, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, environmental programs, out trips, etc… During fall, winter and spring, we host programs for school, adult, family and other special interest groups during week days and weekends.

Volunteers will work to assist YMCA Wanakita staff and will not be responsible for delivering a program without the guidance and direction of staff. We have many people wishing to volunteer with us and we welcome all those who are interested to contact us. Please note that staffing, volunteer requirements and living accommodations are limited and volunteers will be asked to join us on an as needed basis. As the YMCA is a registered charity, documentation recognizing the number of volunteer hours completed can be provided.

  • Qualifications: Standard First Aid, CPR C, Bronze Cross (Summer Overnight and Family Camp volunteers only)
  • Criminal Records Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening (current within 6 months of volunteer start date)
