On September 5 & 6, eight determined walkers laced up their shoes and set out on a powerful two-day, 72-kilometre journey for the second annual Long Walk Home.

Together with hundreds of generous donors, they raised an incredible $61,702 in support of the YMCA Men’s Residence.

Along the route, walkers traveled through Brantford, Brant County, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Burlington, and Hamilton—passing four YMCA branches before arriving at the finish line at the YMCA Men’s Residence in downtown Hamilton. With sore feet, tired legs, and full hearts, they were greeted by cheers, hugs, and applause from YMCA staff, residents, family, and friends.

One of the most meaningful moments came as the walkers passed Hamilton City Hall, where they were joined by several residents of the YMCA Men’s Residence. Together, they walked the final 500 metres to the finish line—a symbolic reminder of the journey toward stability, community, and hope.

Thanks to the $61,702 raised through this year’s walk, more men will have access to the supports and essentials they need to move from crisis to stability.

“The Long Walk Home is about more than just the distance we travel on foot,” said Manny Figueiredo, one of the walkers, and President and CEO of YMCA Hamilton|Burlington|Brantford. “It’s about walking alongside men who are facing some of the hardest steps of their lives. This year’s walk proves that when our community comes together, we can help change the path forward.”

While the fundraising goal was surpassed, the work continues. Men in our community continue to face challenges such as homelessness, mental health struggles, and social isolation. The YMCA is committed to being part of the solution—and ongoing community support ensures that every man has a safe place to live, food to eat, and a pathway toward healing and hope.

A heartfelt thank you to the walkers, donors, volunteers, and community partners who made this year’s Long Walk Home an unforgettable success.

Together, we walked for stability. We walked for healing. We walked for home.
