The 2020 fall Forest School program has been cancelled. More information about future programs will be listed when available. (Updated March 5, 2021)

What is Forest School?

The concept is simple: regular and repeated access to the same natural space through play-based, inquiry-led, and experiential learning in the outdoors. The outcome? Children who are more resilient, understand how to problem solve, and have improved physical and mental health. Evidence based research shows heightened development in all areas: social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic. And it doesn’t stop there. By returning to a natural place and developing a sense of connection, children experience the process of change in the natural world around them, which feeds into an understanding of their place in nature, and fosters a sense of stewardship for the environment.

The Program

Situated on a 1000 acre site on the shores of Koshlong Lake, children will have the opportunity to play and explore our many wetlands, streams, and forested areas! The program is inquiry-based, which means we take the children’s lead on what they want to learn about.  Interests, exploration, discovery and curiosity drive the day to day content of the program.  We will spend the majority of our time outdoors, hiking the trails, playing in the woods, learning and developing new skills. Animal tracking, plant and tree identification, shelter building, ecology, fire building, outdoor cooking, nature games, story telling, reading, writing, outdoor math, crafts and drama are some of the activities we may land on, any given day. For more information, contact Sarah Bell at or 1800-387-5081 ex2245
