PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT - Summer 2021:

We were very hopeful that we would be able to offer Summer Overnight Camp & Day Camp this year, but unfortunately we've had to make the difficult decision to cancel again this summer. But we also have good news. We will be reopening Wanakita to offer a modified family program - YMCA Wanakita Family Lodge. We feel this is the safest way to give kids & families a Wanakita experience this summer.

Looking for a traditional YMCA Wanakita experience without staying overnight? YMCA Wanakita offers Day Camp for campers residing or visiting the Haliburton/Minden area. Day campers enjoy both land and water based programs, such as kayaking, canoeing, fun sumba, crafts, slip and slide, campfire, swamping, swimming, water trampoline, archery and so much more. Campers will also have the option to start building their early tripping skills by participating in a one-night overnight.

Day Camp - Grades SK-7

Day Camp programs at Wanakita are open to campers aged 5- 13 (as of December 31 in the year they are attending camp.) Once at camp, campers are placed in groups of 6 to 12 campers, based on their age, and are lead by one to two great YMCA Wanakita counsellors.

Our Food Services department will provide a healthy, nutritious lunch that matches the activity level of our busy campers. We can accommodate most special dietary requirements, so please make sure you detail dietary requests on your registration. Some menu examples include:

  • Fresh Pita Sandwiches and Soup
  • Fajitas with all the fixings
  • Burgers

Campers are welcome to bring a snack with them to camp but please do not bring peanut or nut products.

We pack in a lot of fun between 9am and 4pm. Here's just a glimpse of a typical day:

9:00am - Drop off by bus/car/boat
9:10am - Roll call  and Flag Raising
9:15am - Group planned activities
11:30pm - Lunch at Dining Hall
12:15pm - Group planned activities
3:30pm - Buddy Swim
4:15pm - Packing up for departure

Bus Transportation

If you opt to have your camper take the bus, the bus will pick your camper up at one of the set pick-up/drop-off locations as it travels a loop down County Road 21 from Haliburton to Minden; returning via South Lake Road and County Road 1. Exact stops will be confirmed in your confirmation letter upon registration.
