Every time someone takes an action for peace, people are connected, to themselves and to each other. In every community there are people who make a difference and who are committed to bringing peace and prosperity to the world they live in, often in the face of great conflict and injustice. The YMCA Peace Medal is a way to recognize and celebrate members of your community who inspire us to join them inc reating a more peaceful world.

The YMCA of Hamilton|Burlington|Brantford is accepting nominations for the 2018 YMCA Peace Medal. The award recognizes the achievements of individuals or groups who have made a significant contribution to gostering a culture of peace in the community.

2018 YMCA Peace Medal Breakfast
Presented by the Farah Family Foundation and Hasty Markets
Wednesday, November 28, 2018

Nominees must meet the following criteria:
  • The actions of the nominee have demonstrated their commitment to the advancement of peace or the promotion of non-violence within the family, the community, our nation or internationally.
  • The nominee has developed, on his/her own or with others, a program or activity that contributes to a safe/non-violent community and promotes social justice and community cohesion.
  • The actions of the nominee as a 'peacemaker' will have motivated the local community.
  • The actions of the nominee will have demonstrated ways to live in peace and harmony in an increasingly diverse society.

For youth nominees only (ages 19 and under):

Through their actions, the nominee will have served as an example to other youth in the pursuit of peace and a non-violent community.

Please note, it is imperative that a nomination reflect compliance in all outlined criteria in order to be considered for a YMCA Peace Medal. All qualifying nominees will be contacted by the YMCA.
