Want to become a lifeguard?

The YMCA is offering the National Lifesaving Society (NLS) full certification course on Sundays from January 7 to March 11th at the Les Chater Family YMCA. Cost is $50 for members and $60 for non-members. Phone 905-667-1515 to register.


Help others achieve their health and wellness goals

We will be offering the YMCA Canada Fitness Instructor Training Program (all stages) beginning January 23rd until February 15, 2012. Courses will run Monday and Wednesdays from 11 am - 3 pm at the Les Chater Family YMCA. Cost is $75 for members and $130 for non-members. Phone 905-667-1515 to register.

Live Well

Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University affiliated programs

The YMCA, Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University partnership shares a vision to promote wellness and build healthy communities through access to innovative programs based on the needs of the communities we serve. The partnership enables the transformation of health care by collaboratively linking acute care hospital health services with community health and wellness programs.

905-667-1515. Physicians clearance is highly recommended and/or required for participation in the programs and a referral form may be used to provide clearance to exercise.

Fit for Function

We are currently recruiting people who have had a stroke to participate in a research study. Individuals who agree to take part will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group who will receive the Fit for Function Stroke Wellness program, or to a control group who will receive a regular YMCA membership and a wellness coach. Participation for both groups is three months and the entire study will take place over one year.

Healthy Hearts

In partnership with HHS, this exercise and education program is designed for individuals who have completed their rehabilitative program at the hostpial or at risk of developing heart disease. A doctor's referral is required.

In Motion (formerly Total Bone and Joint Health Program)

This exercise and education program is designed for individuals suffering from chronic joint or bone issues such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. This program is ideal for those wanting to optimize their health pre ad post surgically for a hip and/or knee replacement.

CanWell

CanWell is a pilot program that has been developed in partnership with the YMCA, HHS, McMaster University and the Juravinski Cancer Centre. This program is a 12 week supervised exercise and education program designed for individuals who are cancer survivors.
